Alright, this is my last post for at least 8 hours, but the latest post by Mark Driscoll (of Mars Hill Church) just pisses me off. He is critiquing mainline churches and does so in such a snobbish, derogatory and generalizing way that I am tempted not to give him the time of day anymore. The idea that people who disagree with one’s own beliefs aren’t really Christian is not new to more conservative Christians, but I must admit his take on women clergy is frankly neanderthal. I would also point you to one person’s response here.
Update: Here is another liberal going to hell view of Driscoll’s rant : ) A couple of the comments here are funny.
Update 2: Here is one explanation for the origin of the phrase “get my goat.”

It’s about time you swore off Driscoll. I haven’t been giving him the time of day for the last five years.
And still he keeps calling!

Hello…i just differ a bit hehe..When you said the zen rocks led to the United Methodist Church….actually those were God’s rocks showing us in a secret way we may not understand. It doesnt literally mean that we take rocks with voodoo powers to get to the church.. Maybe if you were not a fundaMENTAL you would know that…or you could have a commercial how YOU would like it..Preachers slapping people with Bibles to get to church..think about that? At least Bibles would be in your little TV commercial. Anyway the Commercial was representing how we all find our unique ways to get to the church..but to put it to simple terms they aren’t going to say “susi q came to the united methodist church because one day she saw a woman and the woman looked like her mom and her mom wore the color red and red reminded her of blood and blood reminded her of sacrifice and sacrifice reminded her of a lamb and a lamb reminded her of Jesus.” . . . so instead of all that explaining for ONE person

Dear Maggie:
If you took the time to read through other posts in this blog, you would see that I am anything but fundaMENTAL as you put it. I am one of the most liberal pastors I know in my thinking, but even liberality has its limits when it comes to inane and insipid commercials. And that is just what the new UMC commercials are. In addition, it does not make one a fundamentalist to think that a commercial for a denomination just might have a least one small reference to God or Jesus.
But in any case, thanks for stopping by : )
